Linda Brown-Robinson is the Immediate Past President of the Syracuse Onondaga NAACP. A born and raised proud New Yorker and a native of Mt. Vernon, NYC, Linda’s activism first took hold upon relocating to upstate New York in 1968, where she joined a number of boards. She recalls that one of her first impactful boards was then known as the “Community Folk Art Gallery.”
She now feels that she must always vote. A value instilled in her by her parents, as well as something she learned in the 1970’s while her and her husband Van traveled back and forth to Rochester, NY to volunteer on a friends political campaign (which gave her the political bug), Linda believes: volunteer, not to hold an elected office!
Linda is an active and hands on member on a number of local boards, organizations, and commissions, serving as a Trustee on SUNY ESF Board, New York Forward Reopening Board, NYS Fair Advisory Board, CNY N.O.W. (National Organization for Women), Boys and Girls Club of Syracuse, Living Community Alliance, Onondaga County Aging Services Advisory Board, Onondaga Elders, Inc., CBTU (Coalition of Black Trade Unionist) Board Member, Board Member several Interfaith Works’ sub-committees. A former Board Member of FOCUS Greater Syracuse, and past member of the Executive Committee for the Onondaga County Democratic Committee, Linda currently serves on the Democratic 5th Ward Committee. She is frequently asked to serve on many local, state ad-hoc committees, forums and celebrations. Linda is the immediate past President of the local Syracuse Onondaga NAACP and currently sits on the Executive Board. She is a 2021 InterFaith Leadership Award recipient. Linda was recently appointed as the NYS NAACP Western Region Director, where she will oversee 11 Upstate NAACP Branches.
Additionally, she is an entrepreneur owning her own event planning business “In The EVENT Of…”
Over the years Linda has received numerous awards for her commitment to community service: she received the Women of Distinction award from then Senator David Valesky, she was presented with a proclamation award from NYS Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli, and she was celebrated by receiving the City Democrat of the Year. Linda has been presented the CNY Girl Scout Council with an appreciation of service award and made a life-time Girl Scout. Linda has received numerous NAACP local, state, and national awards and commendations.
Linda likes to spend her free time (when time allows) participating in her greatest passion – traveling with her husband Van (with many side trips to Florida to visit the adult children, grandkids, and the pride of the family great-grandchild little JoJo). Linda has traveled both domestically and abroad, and likes to share that she has traveled to 47 of the 50 state and five of the seven continents. It’s a good thing Ms. Linda is a retired “baby boomer” as she would not have time to work for pay.
