CNY-CAN brings together patients and caregivers with researchers and health professionals to advance patient-centered outcomes research and to further efforts to help older adults live well and longer at home. Our biggest event was a visit to Syracuse from national Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute Executive Director Dr. Joe Selby. He spoke at Dean and Chair of Medicine Grand Rounds on Thursday June 14, 2018, at SUNY Upstate Medical University and at the free FOCUS Forum June 15 at Loretto. The programs were part of an outreach effort by PCORI and the Health Foundation of Western and Central New York.
You can hear an interview with Dr. Joe Selby and Dr. Sharon Brangman at HEALTHLINK.
FOCUS Greater Syracuse Inc. with our partners in the Central New York Citizens Aging Research and Action Network (CNY-CAN) is working through its third Pipeline to Proposals contract awarded by the
Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI).
The CNY-CAN partnership formed in 2015 with FOCUS Greater Syracuse, SUNY Upstate Medical University, HealtheConnections, and Southwest Community Center.
The partnership developed with support from an initial Tier I contract through PCORI’s Pipeline to Proposal Awards Program. That was followed by a Tier II contract for $25,000 and a Tier III for $50,000. At each stage CNY-CAN demonstrated effective involvement of patients and caregivers in development of research proposals.
