The goal to create one Community Calendar for Central New York has yet to be achieved. In fact, there may be more calendars, more events, and more confusion than ever.
Even the best search engines can’t find and bring together all the public event calendars in the region. Event calendars prepared by publications have evolved into online versions by publishers, broadcasters, municipalities, and independent organizations that compile lists of events submitted electronically. Each entity seems to have its own calendar categories and formats.
The good news is that it doesn’t take a dozen phone calls to get an answer about time and date for an event. And to get the news out about an event, it’s just a matter of filling out a dozen different online forms.
A combined community event calendar was just one of the 87 goals set by the Greater Syracuse community in the 1998 visioning sessions. You can read about more of the goals and the other 20 highlights HERE. There’s more work to do.
The accomplishments may not have been done by FOCUS but are the result of Forging Our Community’s United Strength.
