Honor Flight Syracuse is one of hundreds of volunteer opportunities available in Central New York.
Many Hands Make Light Work
One of the 87 goals set by the thousands of participants in the FOCUS visioning sessions in 1998 was to support volunteerism. Since then the people of Central New York have made countless volunteer commitments over the years and put in millions of hours for the good of the community. In 2016 alone and just through United Way volunteers put in 39,284 hours.
In 1997 the Volunteer Center of Syracuse and Onondaga County merged with United Way of Central New York. Since then United Way has maintained a referral service for people interested in volunteering that can connect them with some of the many volunteer opportunities available in the area. You can find volunteer openings and organizations in need of volunteers at www.volunteercny.org. There also are many other local agencies in need of volunteers and there is far more work to be done.
For its 20th anniversary FOCUS has highlighted progress made toward 20 of the 87 community. See what can be done and has been done, not necessarily by FOCUS, but by Forging Our Community’s United Strength.
